How to Install Ubuntu in VirtualBox on Windows
Introduction
Want to explore the world of Ubuntu without affecting your Windows system? VirtualBox provides a perfect solution. By creating a virtual machine, you can run Ubuntu on your Windows 7, 8, or 10 PC. Here’s how to do it.
Step 1: Download and Install VirtualBox
Begin by downloading Oracle VM VirtualBox from the official website. Once downloaded, run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to install VirtualBox on your Windows PC.

Step 3: Create a New Virtual Machine
Open VirtualBox and click on the “New” button. Enter a name for your virtual machine, select “Linux” as the type, and choose the appropriate version. Allocate memory size and click “Create.”
Step 4: Configure Virtual Machine Settings
In the VirtualBox dashboard, select the newly created virtual machine and click on “Settings.” Navigate to the “Storage” section, click on the empty disk icon under “Controller: IDE,” and choose the Ubuntu ISO file you downloaded earlier.
Step 5: Install Ubuntu
Now, start the virtual machine. It will boot from the Ubuntu ISO file. Follow the on-screen instructions to install Ubuntu on the virtual machine just as you would on a physical machine.
Step 6: Install VirtualBox Guest Additions
Once Ubuntu is installed, go to the “Devices” menu in VirtualBox and select “Insert Guest Additions CD image.” In Ubuntu, open the file manager and navigate to the CD image. Run the included installer to install the Guest Additions, which will enhance the virtual machine’s performance and usability.
